Wild Jonah crab

A robust, cold-water crab (Cancer borealis) landed alongside our other shellfish — prized for firm, sweet claw and body meat and supplied ocean-run for the processing and foodservice trade.

A Jonah crab (Cancer borealis)

Overview

Jonah crab is a hard-shelled North Atlantic crab found in the same cold waters our members fish off Cape Breton. Its firm, sweet meat — especially in the large claws — has built steady demand among processors and foodservice buyers.

We supply Jonah crab ocean-run, in the 4.5-inch to 6-inch-plus size range, packed in 5 kg. Landed by Co-op members and handled at our Neil's Harbour plant, it offers a dependable, value-oriented alternative and complement to snow crab.

As with all our shellfish, you buy direct from the harvester-owned Co-op, with traceability back to the local fishery.
